Opening Ceremony of The Little Mermaid - Ariel's Undersea Adventure

Friday, June 3, 2011

The Little Mermaid- Ariel's Undersea Adventure opening ceremony was held at Disney California Adventure yesterday, and I was lucky enough to be there to witness the event.
The Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs was there to introduce Alan Menken, the composer of the 1989 film The Little Mermaid.
Tom Staggs also introduced Jodi Benson, who is the voice of Ariel.
She walked out and sang "Part of Your World",which not only brought goosebumps to my skin but also made me choke up a bit. I was a teenager when The Little Mermaid came out, and I have fond memories of taking my little sister to see the movie at our local theatre. It was quite a honor hearing her sing in person.

Sherie Rene Scott, who was Ursula in the Broadway production of The Little Mermaid, came out next to sing "Poor Unfortunate Souls".
After we got a melody of The Little Mermaid memorable songs by Disney singers including "Kiss the Girl" and "Under the Sea". At the end of "Under the Sea", Jodi Benson and Sherie Rene Scott came back out to share the stage.  Jodi Benson sang a line from "Part of Your World", then Sherie Rene Scott sang a line from "Poor Unfortunate Souls", followed by a dramatic dropping of the curtain revealing the Little Mermaid- Ariel's Undersea Adventure with a burst of confetti shot through the air.

Jodi Benson, Alan Menken, Pat Carroll, Sherie Rene Scott, and Tom Staggs.
Pat Carroll, the original voice of Ursula, was also there to witness the opening ceremony. After she met and took photographs with fans.

The Little Mermaid- Ariel's Undersea Adventure is now officially open at Disney California Adventure.
Are you ready to go under the sea?

Mouse Rewind (5/20-5/28)

Welcome to this week's Mouse Rewind! Here you can find all the posts I did throughout the week that you may have missed.
A week ago this past Friday I shared some photos from the outside of the new attraction The Little Mermaid Ariel's Undersea Adventure, where I revealed what the loading area looks like.
The next day I shared a couple photos from the new  World of Color Extended Pirates of the Caribbean Scene that now includes Captain Blackbeard, Mermaids, and more Jack Sparrow.
On Tuesday I did an update on my Gowalla Trip Contest at Disneyland.  If you haven't read about it yet, the contest ends August 31, 2011. The first place prize has been claimed, and and you can see her entry full of pictures in this update. Just because the first place prize is claimed it doesn't mean you can't win something too! Make sure you read how to play along with us!
Wednesday we continued with The Cell Phone Series in Wordless Wednesday- Random Photos Around Disneyland

Thursday the Star Tours: The Adventures Continue Spaceport Terminal was revealed. You can see what to expect in the queue here.
On Friday I showed you how to make your own Toy Story Alien Cupcakes with a recipe to make them from scratch, and how to make your own DIY Cars flashcards to teach colors and shapes with your Little One in my Magical Blogorail post: Favorite Disney Activity Outside of a Theme Park.
I also shared photos from the new Mickey's Soundsational Parade at Disneyland, which I shared the curb with Darth Vader (who was holding a Mickey balloon) and two Storm Troopers that were sporting Mickey ears.
On Saturday I revealed photos inside the new ride: The Little Mermaid Ariel's Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure. This post includes photos throughout the whole attraction, so if you don't want to be spoiled... best to avoid this post. ;)

Because I'm a big fan of the D23's Disney Geek, each week I'll be posting the latest video on my weekly recap! If you aren't familiar with the videos yet then give it a look.

Next week  I'll have a guest post from Mr. Magical Days with the Mouse, as he talks about riding Star Tours The Adventures Continue, I'll continue with the ABC Disney Photo Theme challenge with the letter "O",  and a special post about the new exhibit at Discovery Science Center: The Adventures of Mr. Potato Head and much more.

A Look Inside The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure

Friday, May 27, 2011

There have been many previews lately for The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure. I was lucky to not only go on Thursday but Friday too.
My first reaction to the ride was that I absolutely love it. I was beaming with excitement as I got off, but I will admit I didn't get the whole effect since I was looking through a camera lens the whole time. The second time I noticed little details I didn't notice the first time like the emotion in Ariel's face as she is about to kiss Eric. There is some passion behind those eyes!
The colors are bright, the water effect they use works, and the animatronics are amazing. Watch their faces closely.
I was wondering how they would make you feel like you are under the sea, and couldn't imagine how it would work. At the very beginning you start to go backwards into the sea, and bubbles are projected all around you. Something so simple like that worked for me.
If there were one complaint, I would say the ending is rushed. You see Ursula singing "Poor Unfortunate Souls", and then Ariel and Eric kiss and are married.
This ride is beautiful though, and they paid plenty of attention to detail not only on the inside but the outside as well.
How did my Little One do? He was quite serious and paid close attention the whole time, which means he loved it. We will be going on this ride many times in our future.
If you don't want to see any images from the ride, then you need to stop reading now.
Otherwise enjoy Ariel's Undersea Adventure.

The Little Mermaid Ariel's Undersea Adventure Loading Area Revealed

Saturday, May 21, 2011

It's almost time for The Little Mermaid Ariel's Undersea Adventure to open!
On Thursday the construction walls came down, and we were all able to see what the loading area of the ride looks like.
I took these pictures Friday night after Disney California Adventure closed, and everyone was leaving after the last performance of World of Color.
During the day, the attraction was running for a long line of cast members. On my way out of the park I had a conversation with a couple cast members saying that the ride is really amazing inside. I know I can't wait to find out for myself... how about you?
